Gastrointerologist...FINALLY!

Need advice from all of you please!!!

Last week Lindsey FINALLY had her specialty appointment, refered by Primary Childrens, to see the Gastrointerologist Dr. Louis Mizell (who might be my favorite person in the whole world!) We've had this scheduled appt since January and last week was their first opening!! What a high tech office and so much info. Lindsey was so unhappy and losing her mind the whole time, I was trying to feed Ashton but she kept pulling back every half ounce and crying, binkies constantly fell on the floor, huge messy blowout from Ashton, and couldn't find burp cloth for the major spit up that happened. All the while the Doctor was giving very strict helpful recommendations and advice. I had my head leaned forward and turned sideways so I could hear him better. Then in the middle of his sentence he starts laughing, folded his arms, sinks into his chair and says, "this is great, unbelievable you guys" It was pretty funny.

Poor lindz. She really has some digesting issues and an extreme pre mature system due to her not growing much the last month of my pregnancy. Dr. Mizell says Lindsey should sleep on her stomach at an incline with a heating pad under the sheet due to all her complications and pre mature stomach/digestive system. Our Pediatrician says do not let her sleep on her stomach because of the whole sids thing. What the hell?!! Most all of our moms slept us on our stomach and now they say don't do that! Lame. I swear they change it every 10 years. Lindsey just won't sleep on her back and I'm scared to death of SIDS. But in order for everyone to get some sleep around here Lindsey has to be on her stomach and Shane needs a sane and balanced wife. So...

a sane, balanced, and rested wife/mother = Lindsey on her tummy.

...your thoughts???

both of my boys were extremely colicky and had bad reflux. they both slept on their tummy's from the very beginning and we did the heating pad thing too. i was at peace with what my sis in law told me....she said that if the Lord is gonna take a baby so early, it won't be because you put her to sleep on her tummy. it was just her time. that is IF something were to happen. but, both of my boys survived!

in fact, all 4 of my kids have slept on their tummies from the beginning! all of my kids HATE THEIR BACK! so, in order to have some sane time in our house, we let them sleep on their tummies. MY ped is ok with that. actually both of my boys were hospitalized at one point due to their reflux and i remember jaden wouldn't sleep in the hospital because they had him on his back. i was going crazy. so i talked to the ped on call at the hospital and she actually said it was ok to put him on his belly. thank goodness.

i know it's scary. but honestly the odds are stacked against her for sids. non-smoking home is a HUGE difference with sids.

it sounds like she needs her tummy time to get some good sleep. it will be ok. :)

My kids have slept on their tummies too. McKell was colicky and would only stay asleep 20 minutes, until I switched her to her tummy, then she was like a different kid. My doctor says as long as they can move their head from side to side their fine, if she's rolling I'm sure she can do that.

You are both doing a great job.

Both my boys have slept on their tummies! I'm all for it! Doctors don't ALWAYS knows what's best for EVERY child...Momma's know best!

Kamden slept on his tummy. It was around 4 months that he started rolling over anyhow so he would end up sleeping however he wanted plus I wasn't going to go back in each time and put him on his back. I think she will be fine, just check on her and have your monitor on.

I know lots of moms who sleep their babies on their tummies (including me!) I was freaked out about it at first, but we haven't had any problems.

i guess i'm the worst mom ever but i realized miles would sleep all night if he was on his tummy so....i put him on his tummy. joel is pretty strict about the back to sleep thing but if i'm tired and the twins are tired but can't sleep i put them on their tummy and all is well. besides if you're babies are rolling it shouldn't be a problem.
